You know what feels really satisfying?

Hammering nails into wood.

....don't you think?

If you've never done it, you should give it a go sometime.

It's so-so.

I prefer smashing shipping skids apart with crowbars.
And playing with nifty tools.

Power washers are fun. Water from those things has some nasty-ass kick to it.

Drilling things is kind of neat!

I cut a computer's CDROM drive in half with a dremel once. Weeee!

I find most sorts of crafty things fairly enjoyable.

Hammering nails, drilling holes (often to assist with larger nails or hanging devices), stuff like that is fun, but nothing beats the experience of using a table saw.

It's like, there's this huge metal blade, spinning crazy fast. If you slip up, there goes a finger. It's incredibly satisfying to simply slide a piece of wood into it and watch as the saw eats away, sawdust a-flyin', while you get the cut you want.

It's even more satisfying when the cut you make actually fits how you want and looks good. Having been the primary cutter for a friend's wood flooring, it's very satisfying to set foot in his house, look at the pretty floor, and know "I had a huge hand in this floor being here".

I would think it's at least as satisfying as shoveling piles upon piles of dirt, or digging a swail (a very very shallow ditch over a wide area, to encourage drainage). There's something very liberating about the sense of accomplishment you feel, seeing results after a few hours of hard work.

...Just don't try to lay 10 pallets of sod (60 rolls per pallet) in the rain. That leads to nothing but frustration, as the mud underneath the sod squelches up between each roll, and you're left with lumpy, bumpy, uneven grass with 8cm deep footprints all over.

(Can you tell I did landscaping from April to November? *grins*)

I just got to crimp 15mm wide chunks of aluminum (aluminium) down to 10mm width or so using a giant-ass all-manual crimping tool.

My arms hurt.

I ignore the boys with their fancy tools. Smashing things is OH so good.
